HCM City to have five new IZs
(Listed Sep 5, 2008)
The Ministry of Construction has approved the establishment of five new industrial zones in HCM City: Dong Nam, Vinh Loc III, Phuoc Hiep, Bau Dung and Xuan Thoi Thuong, totalling more than 2,200ha.

The three IZs of Dong Nam (338ha), Phuoc Hiep (200ha) and Bau Dung (175ha) will be located in Cu Chi district. The Vinh Loc III IZ (200ha) will be built in Binh Chanh district and the Xuan Thoi Thuong IZ (300ha) will be built in Hoc Mon district.

The Ministry of Construction considered the amended plan on developing IZs in HCM City to 2020 and agreed to narrow the scales of the IZs of Tan Tao, Hiep Phuoc, Tan Binh, Tan Thoi Hiep and Huu Phu since site clearance there is very difficult.

The Ministry said it is necessary to carefully consider the position, scale, hydrographic conditions and environmental impacts caused by the 800ha Le Minh Xuan IZ in Binh Chanh district because the IZ will be adjacent to irrigation canals.

The Ministry has also asked HCM City to re-consider the Binh Khanh IZ in Can Gio district, which is planned to have a shipbuilding yard, because Can Gio is an area for mangrove forests and bio-reserves.
